A Step to Help

I.
Far away to a distant land,
She had run away from home,
With past behind and present unknown,
In search of future, she had went along…
…along the tides, the sun and shade,
…with years to come, with days to live!

A journey of haste, she took in rage,
Traveling to reign, the world she owned,
Yet her strength crumbled in tears,
When the world she knew, was none, no more.

In despair she cried, and for food she traveled,
Short of money…but she knew no job,
Thence on a street, she cried in pain,
Asking alms to strangers unknown,
Who merrily traveled, ate good and sweet,
Wore cloths oh! New! She wished to steal!
Yet her pain, they failed to know…

II.
Then once when I walked, in joy, I saw,
A poor lady, begging for alms,
Hundreds had passed, never giving a coin,
For a rupee one gave,
Could have eased her pain…
Selfish they were and humanity was lost…

But I, a student, could not just pass by,
For a help in need, is a help indeed,
Thus I gave some rupee coin,
Offered some food, and she smiled to thank,
I felt blessed, merry the sun, shined bright!
